Peggy Cadigan, the New Jersey State Library’s Consultant for Innovation & Communication, has been accepted as a provisional member of the Association of Professional Futurists, an organization committed to leadership and excellence in the futures field. She is only the second librarian to join the group.

Cadigan has been very involved in examining the future path of public libraries, having served as facilitator for New Jersey State Librarian Norma Blake’s Blue Ribbon Task Force on the Future and helping to organize the Mid-Atlantic Library Futures Conference.

She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, NY, and her master’s degree in library science from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.

As a provisional member she has three years to complete the professional development process to attain full membership. The process includes professional development components and the assignment of a mentor to guide her. Bob Treadway, a business futurist and founder of Treadway and Associates, will mentor Cadigan. Treadway’s clients include Gillette, Motorola, Berkshire Hathaway and American Express.

APF members provide a unique perspective to anticipate and influence the future, and provide network and community building opportunities for best practice sharing and professional growth.
