LBH Appreciates its Volunteers

The New Jersey State Library for the Blind and Handicapped honored the power of volunteer service and celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Audiovision Radio Reading Service on Friday, April 18. LBH honored its dedicated corps of 157 volunteers with a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and Awards Ceremony, “A Night of Volunteer Stars.\” These volunteers, from teens to senior citizens, contributed 3,499 hours of service in 2007 to the people with print disabilities who use LBH.

Robert Zangara Named One of the Best

Robert Zangara, director of technology at the NJ State Library, has been named one of the top non-profit Chief Information Officers by the New Jersey Technology Council. The presentation took place during the group’s annual CIO Conference at the Hyatt Regency Princeton on April 18. Zangara was recognized for being an outstanding example of a “CIO as Innovator, Marketer and Business Leader,” which was the theme of the conference. Full Story

State Library Partners with Trump Taj Mahal

The New Jersey State Library has forged a partnership with the Trump Taj Mahal. The Human Resources Staff at the Trump Taj have offered to share their customer service training model with librarians from all around the state at a free customer service training workshop on June 19!

Love was in the Air

The New Jersey State Library partnered with Barnes & Noble and the New Jersey Library Association to sponsor “Love Your Library” month in February 2008 to once again help fund the Statewide Summer Reading Program at all public libraries in New Jersey. The funds raised from the month-long event benefited the children and young adults who participate in the 2008 Summer Reading Program.

Many libraries participated in a “Best Display” contest to promote the event. The Ridgefield Park library took the top prize, but received stiff competition from many others, including runners-up North Brunswick Library and the Evesham Branch of the Burlington County Library.

State Library Announces Availability of Literacy Grants for Public Libraries

The New Jersey State Library is pleased to announce the availability of the third year of the Literacy Leadership Program Grants for Public Libraries funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through their Library Servcies and Technology Act Grants to the States program. A total of $200,000 is available in $20,000 maximum grant awards. The grant deadline is May 23, 2008. Full story

QandANJ.org Commercial Receives National Award

QandANJ.org has been awarded the 2008 InfoTubey Award for their delightful commercial, Now Your Library is Open Late Night, Too!. The award was given during the 2008 Computers in Libraries Conference hosted by Information Today, Inc. Beth Cackowski, QandANJ.org Project Coordinator, accepted the award for South Jersey Library Cooperative. The commercial has been highly successful this year having also won a 2008 ASTRA Best of Show Award from the New Jersey Communications Advertising and Marketing Association. The commercial is part of a statewide marketing campaign promoting QandANJ.org that was funded by a grant from the New Jersey State Library.
